Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended heartfelt greetings to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on its 87th Raising Day, lauding the force’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation’s internal security.
Taking to X, PM Modi wrote, “Raising Day wishes to all CRPF personnel. This force has played a vital role in our security apparatus, especially in challenging aspects relating to internal security.”
The Prime Minister praised the valour and dedication of CRPF personnel, adding, “CRPF personnel have made a mark for their duty, courage and steadfast commitment in the most testing of situations. Their contribution in overcoming humanitarian challenges is also commendable.”
CRPF’s Glorious Legacy
The CRPF traces its origins back to July 27, 1939, when it was founded as the Crown Representative Police. It was renamed the Central Reserve Police Force on December 28, 1949, after the enactment of the Central Reserve Police Force Act. Over the decades, the CRPF has grown into India’s largest paramilitary force, playing a crucial role in counter-insurgency operations and internal security management.
Amit Shah’s Tribute
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also extended his greetings, acknowledging the force’s sacrifices.
“Heartfelt greetings to all CRPF personnel on their Raising Day. Your selfless sacrifice has been the backbone of our nation's security, and your unwavering courage to end Naxalism is truly commendable,” Shah said in his message.
He further saluted the martyrs of the force, stating that their legacy of valour continues to inspire the nation.
CRPF’s Message and Women’s Battalions
The CRPF, in its official message, paid tribute to its personnel and families, saying, “On 27th July, we celebrate 86 glorious years of bold courage, supreme sacrifice, and resolute commitment—deeply inscribed in the legacy of the nation's security and service.”
Significantly, the CRPF is the only paramilitary force in India to have six women’s battalions. The first, 88 (M) Battalion, was established in 1986 and is headquartered in Delhi. These battalions highlight the evolving role of women in India’s security forces.
